Just a quick post to answer accumulatively some of the recent most queries that I’ve received either on Google Maps, Facebook, Instagram or via direct contact. These might help you if you have a similar question. Otherwise, there is a blog with FAQ on the website. www.longevityphysiotherapy.co.uk/blog/faq/
What Equipment is used in Vestibular Rehabilitation?
This one is simple. I use only equipment that you would have at home so you can continue your own programme at home. I use mats for balance, a couch for manoeuvres and various objects in the clinic for obstacles that help train gait. So you won’t have to buy anything to help your rehab.
How much does Vestibular Rehabilitation cost and how do I keep Vestibular rehab affordable?
It depends on the condition and how long you’ve had it. The great thing is that you can do so much of the rehab yourself when prompted how to. If your problem is BPPV (vertigo), usually only 1-2 sessions (so £90-£150). If there is some dysfunction in the inner ear or there are a range of symptoms, you can expect 4-6 sessions spread out over several months (3-5 potentially). So that cost would be £240- £390. Obviously it depends if you are using health insurance or self-paying. How you keep it affordable? Do your homework and contact me if you are struggling with the dosage of the exercises or how to do them.
How do I book a session with a vestibular physiotherapist?
In my case, just book online www.longevityphysiotherapy.co.uk
Who is the top rated Vestibular Physiotherapist in Belfast or Northern Ireland?
I’m obviously biased, so I think that I am fully qualified to help you with your vestibular issues. However, I also have excellent colleagues (we all know each other from teaching events) and I would encourage you to look up ACPIVR for suitably qualified physiotherapists in your area.
Can Physio help with TMJ pain and what help do they offer?
The answer is yes – it can. The latest systematic review in 2024 from the Journal of Oral and Facial Pain and Headache (Wang 2024 et al) found that homebased physiotherapy interventions plus some manual therapy was superior to other interventions and that it was a good, low risk conservative option in the management of this tricky condition. The treatment is personalised to exercise, massage, advice, manual therapy, postural exercise, taping and parafunctional management of clenching.
Best jaw exercises for TMJ pain?
Tricky one as it depends on the condition but I tend to opt for exercises that are pain free and promote quality of painful prising the mouth open. The ‘goldfish’ where you track your opening perfectly and guide it with your hand whilst your tongue is on the roof of the mouth is a good one!
Top rated Physio for TMJ in Northern Ireland?
Again, confirmational bias – I’m the only anatomically- specialised clinic in Northern Ireland that focuses on the the face, jaw and ear. So I feel that I can say I have the expertise to asses, treat and help TMD sufferers from across the island of Ireland
